The Limits of Glory website is dedicated to historical minatures gaming using the Limits of Glory system. The system is used for a number of periods in its basic form.
The phrase "limits of glory" comes from Napoléon,
"I excited every kind of emulation, rewarded every kind of merit, and extended the limits of glory."
Napoleon in Council, p. 591
Additionally, in the movie
Waterloo,
the following dialog takes place:
Napoléon Bonaparte:
When I am dead and gone what will the world say of me?
Le Bedoyère:
They'll say that you extended the limits of glory, sire.
Napoléon Bonaparte:
The limits of glory'; is that all I have to leave to my son, the 'limits of glory'?
The basic rules system uses a unique "impulse system" to provide plenty of chaos each turn. Players will never know exactly how much a unit will move or how many actions a unit will get. See the Rules page for more on the impusle system.

Jason is a professional painter who specializes in many periods, including World War II. Check him out if you are interested in getting a professionally painted army together.
The World War II rules are nearly ready for publication. We are currently doing testing with a number of clubs on both sides of the Atlantic. We are looking to do a first run in time for Christmas 2009.
Additionally, we are working on a number of other periods using the same basic system. Some of the periods we are working on are: Napoleonic, Seven Years War, and the American Civil War/Southern War of Independence.
Artillery
Artillery rules follow the historical doctrines and effectiveness of the respective nations. As such, no two nations use artillery in the same way or have the same effectiveness. We recommend knowing your army better than you know it now and use your artillery as your country historically did.
Take the American artillery system, where a request or plan for fire goes through a central controller who can also bring other divisional assets into play, as well as corps or army assets occasionally.
ConQuest We just finished the ConQuest game in Santa Clara! The game was a 15mm desert game on Saturday, event: GH-143 Decision at Alamein. Many of the models were painted by Warpainter of the UK, including the Afrika Korps Camel command stand!
The game went great with the Germans slowing pushing back the Australians, whose armour support was dwingled away. In the end, though the DAK were punished and the Australians managed to hold the center, they were forced to retreat as the armour was not able to support them.
All in all a great game and we got great feedback from the players!
We are also looking for clubs and teams to do playtesting of the Beta rules. Contact us for more information. Please include your names and the club you are with.
